To have your home burgled is a very unpleasant experience. Here are some tips to keep burglars at bay:
- Do not keep large sums of money in your home
- Never hide your keys under a doormat or flower pot
- Avoid hanging a label with your address on your keyring
- Keep valuable papers and jewellery in a (bank) safe
- Make sure there is sufficient lighting around your home
- Don’t leave ladders, containers or other implements around the home
- Don’t let people into the building that have not come specifically for you (for instance, delivery men or women)
- Check if the main entry doors are closed properly
- Ask your neighbours to keep an eye out while you are on holiday. It helps if they can pick up your mail and open and close the curtains!
