Laying a floor and underfloor heating

The floor of a newly-built Bouwinvest home is finished with a cement layer, or screed. Some small cracks may appear in this layer which you can easily repair yourself with, for instance,  ‘Porion’ or ‘Egaline’. Please note that the cement layer often contains an underfloor heating system which may make it unsuitable for a hard floor covering. Ask your supplier if the floor covering is underfloor heating proof.

It is important not to drill or drive nails into the floor because of the presence of electric cables and/or underfloor heating. An important tip: make sure your hard floor ‘floats’ so that space is left between the skirting board and the wall keeping noise nuisance to a minimum.
